Tape worm eggs + larva come from excrements of an infected host. If you eat the excrement (and some animals do) then it'll get infected. If the animal leaves it's excrements in water, then that it will contaminate the water, you drink the water and swallow an egg or larva, you get a tape worm. If you eat an animal that has a tape worm you could get it, or if an infected animal leaves dropping in your vegetable garden, you could get it.

Basically you can only get a tape worm from eating it, and the only way the offspring gets out of the host is through the host's droppings.
