All these people are saying YES, but they are not giving you all of the facts.

In order to play classix XBOX games, your son's system must have a hard drive (any size is fine). The Hard Drive itself plays a big part in backwards compatiblity. You will also need to check the official xbox website to find out what games are backwards compatible- most are, some are not.

When you buy your son the 360- make sure NOT to buy him the Arcarde version. While this system will play all of his new games (360) it does not come with a hard drive. Make sure you tell the associate you want a system WITH a Hard Drive. This is the key. It will cost you like $70 more but will save you money buy accessories down the road.
