Defenitely they are. But it can be challenging and rather expensive. For successful use you'd rather be in a mindset where you accept that early design choices will likely be reconsidered and changed many time between the initial idea and the final product. Henceforth spend less time on initial design and try your ideas. My experience is that even if you give a great deal of thinking in your early ideas they are likely to be proved wrong anyway.
