I was just thinking that because my neighbor is home-schooled and since she doesn't really have school report cards or progress reports like I do. How can she get into colleges or universities without records on her progress

Actually, most homeschoolers DO have records and their parents or the association they homeschool through can provide transcripts. In my state, we are required to maintain semi-annual progress reports as well. I tend to go above and beyond what is required in my record keeping, and most homeschoolers I know do as well.

To answer your question, though, homeschoolers do not have a hard time getting into colleges/universities. Many such institutions actively recruit homeschoolers, because they have proven they can matriculate easily since they are already used to college style learning. A lot of colleges have alternatives for applying for homeschoolers, such as submitting a portfolio of work.

Homeschoolers do get diplomas, if they so wish, but that diploma is not really important, whether a student is homeschooled, private schooled or public schooled. Much more important is the student's ACT/SAT scores and the like-which homeschoolers can just as easily take as their traditionally schooled peers.

Also, most homeschoolers that I know also dual enroll during their junior/senior years of high school. This gives them both high school and college credit simultaneously, and they can enter a fo ur year institution once they are finished with their high school education with a year or two of credits from the local community college already accrued. That also allows them to bypass the other application procedures.

I hope this helps answer your question.
