My computer is about 25 feet away from my Xbox 360, and I was thinking about using a long Ethernet Cable to connect. I know how to do it if it works, but is my internet fast enough. It is currently at 36 Megabytes Per Second(Mbps) and sometimes as low as 9 Mbps. Will it work and will it be fast enough to a point where there is no lag?

The speed of your internet connection does not cause lag. Lag is caused if you join a match from another country, because you will then have a bad connection. If you live in USA, you should have no problems with lag as most people on Xbox Live are from USA.
Your internet speed is fine as long as you have broadband. The only thing that will get faster on Xbox Live if you upgrade your internet is download speed when you download things off Xbox Live Marketplace.
Good Luck!
