If you have a domestic transfer, then you should be fine assuming there are no delays. However if you are flying from international and need to connect to a domestic flight, then you have to go through customs, pick-up checked bags and then check them into your domestic flight. If that is the case, then you will not have enough time.

I once made it through DFW with less than 30 minutes so if you are connecting from American Airlines to another American Airlines flight, 1 hour is enough.
