If I bought a wasr 10 and some day there was an "assault" weapon ban, what would happen? Would I have to give it up? Would I be allowed to grandfather it in? I live in communist Illinois, so you never know. Not too worried about it; I was just curious

I can't see the future, but I wouldn't be too worried about it if I were you: at least not right now.

The 94-2004 AWB did not concern existing ownership, just new sales, and was full of silliness. It wasn't an assault weapons ban as much as it was a pistol grip and flash hider ban. The biggest difficulty was the ten round magazine capacity limit on NEW magazines; and old ones were still allowed.

It was beyond useless, and its only purpose was to get us used to random and meaningless restrictions.
