That is a very interesting question.

I was raised Christian, and heard the whole, "adoption is better than..." line. I think my views on a lot of things were shaped by my 16 years as a Christian.

The next 7 years, I was atheist. My views on morals and such pretty much stayed the same during that time, maybe got a *little* looser, but not by much.

And now, I'm a Goddess-worshipping hippie, and my beliefs are basically, don't cause harm. That influences everything I say, think, and do. So, I guess it does influence my beliefs about adoption. I still held the same Christian-based beliefs about adoption until recently. But when I began to realize that adoption is harmful, or CAN be harmful, my beliefs changed (and continue to change) to reflect the new information I've learned.

It is my moral obligation to learn about what I plan to do before hand, to the best of my ability, and avoid causing harm if at all possible. And whenever I do cause harm, it is my responsibility to correct my actions, adjust my beliefs, and try again.

I'd never thought about this as a religious thing before, and it took me a really long time to answer this question. It got me thinking, for sure! Thanks for the great question!
