Hi
I am a little confused about what I should apply for, the NICOP or the POC?

my wife and i immigrated to the United States in 1992 and in 1996 became a US citizen.
I still have more very old shanakti card and my old Pakistani passport (back from the middle 90's).
I want to know if I should apply for the NICOP card or the POC card?
Because I researched online and it said that POC card is for US BORN CITIZENS that have pakistani decent/ancestory. so I believe that I dont need a POC card but I am still not sure.

Anyone who is pakistani and knows about this could please help me out that would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Hi,
I am a Pakistani and I live in Australia, I have a currently own a NICOP, I dont need a POC, as i am a Pakistani Citizen as well as an Australian Citizen (Dual National). NICOP means National Identity Card For Overseas Pakistanis & POC means Pakistan Origin Card. POC is basically meant for people living in countries without a Dual Nationality arrangement with Pakistani Citizenship (means they have to renounce there Pakistani Citizenship and have acquired the new Citizenship for e.g. Germany, Denmark, Brazil)

The benefits of POC are that the owners of POC are allowed;
- Visa-free entry into Pakistan.
- Indefinite stay in Pakistan.
- Exemption from foreigner registration requirements.
- Permission to purchase and sell property.
- Right to open and operate bank accounts.

Now your answer you should apply for a NICOP (NOT A POC) as u currently hold your Pakistani Citizenship.

The Benefits of a NICOP are;
- Visa-free entry into Pakistan.
- Indefinite stay in Pakistan.
- Exemption from foreigner registration requirements.
- Permission to purchase and sell property.
- Right to open and operate bank accounts

(They are same as POC)

But the benefits are that if you carry a NICOP (NOT AN NIC OR CNIC OR SHANKHTI CARD)

You will not be needing a Pakistani Passport to Travel to Pakistan u will just be needing The US Passport and The NICOP, It wil allow you to Travel Visa Free to Pakistan instead of applying for a Visa ($ 100: Visa Cost) and The NICOP is also Valid for 7, 10, or 12 Years (It depends on your luck)
And you dont even need an CNIC/NIC(Shankhti Card) to open a bank account or to buy a property in Pakistan as NICOP has the same Powers as CNIC/NIC.

And the last thing POC is not for people who are US BORN CITIZENS, for e.g. if your children are born there they wont apply for a POC they will apply for a NICOP as their Father currently holds a Pakistani Nationality (NICOP is not for people over 18, anyone above the age of 1 years can apply and take the benefits of a NICOP) but if you have renounced (cancelled your Citizenship) then You (not US BORN) as well as you kids would be needing a POC.....

I hope that Answers your question...

Cheers.... -_-
