My Home Depot has a very nice display with all three types right next to each other. That's the best way to make a decision.

Soft White, sometimes also marked as "Color Temperature 2700 degrees" (or maybe 3000 degrees), is very close to the incandescent bulbs you are used to. For general room illumination to replace incandescent bulbs, go with that.

Daylight, sometimes also marked "Color Temperature 9000 degrees", is very harsh. Maybe you can use it over a workbench, or in a desk lamp. I tried a couple in a hallway by mistake, and had to take them out.

Bright White, sometimes also marked "Color Temperature 6000 degrees", is between the other two. Maybe you could use them in your kitchen, if it's a very modern kitchen (white and stainless steel). But the Soft White is kinder if you've got wood cabinets and warmer colors.

All in all, Soft White is the best choice for residential use. (My informed opinion, of course.)
