Is the ammo situation for the Marlin 308 too limiting? Would the 336 be a better choice?

A fun question! I like many makes of lever action rifles but my favorite is the Henry http://www.henryrepeating.com/h009_3030.…
for deer hunting and the Marlin 45-70. My wife prefers the Winchester 30-30 and the Marlin 1894 in .44 mag. Its funny that I prefer bolt action rifles for hunting but none the less I will pick up the Marlin 45-70 more often for outdoor protection. Its just handy for bear protection when the family is picking berries or fishing. And I sleep pretty good in my tent with it next to me. My Henry 30-30 is my fave but I keep it in mint condition, so its home is on the wall.

I would say peoples choice of fav lever guns will depend on what the do and where they live. In Alaska where I live the 45-70 and 444 are good all around short range guns. But if I lived in say Arkansas or Georgia it could be many different calibers.
As for the 308 being limited I am not sure about that. The 308 can take about any big game other than being a bit small for big bears or a charging moose. And the 308 has far more power than the 30-30. I would pick the 308 second to the 45-70.
